About the Project
Eko Plaża Giżycko
Eko Plaża Giżycko was built on the north-western shore of Lake Niegocin near the Niegocin Canal. The infrastructure was commissioned on 1 May 2024. Eko Plaża Giżycko consists of a newly constructed fine sand beach, a sanitary building, a sauna and a rental of environmentally friendly water sports equipment. Educational and recreational areas have been created in the newly developed area. Project was a result of the cooperation as part of the Norwegian Mechanism operated by the Polish Agency for Development and Enterprise, and benefited from a grant of €480,000 from Norway. Thanks to cooperation with researchers from the Faculty of Construction at UWM in Olsztyn, energy independence solutions based on obtaining energy from photovoltaic panels were developed for the project.
AIM OF THE PROJECT
The aim of the project is to support the heritage of sailing culture and increase the safety of the country’s waterways by implementing innovative solutions and offering new, environmentally friendly products and services. This will be achieved through the efficient and ecological use of local natural resources and the revitalisation of the shores of Lake Niegocin. The normalisation and development of the lake shore will contribute to increasing the level of exploitation of the tourist potential of the city and the region.

The Eko Plaża (Eco Beach) project – the creation of an aquatic leisure centre offering innovative, comprehensive and ecological products and services – is an investment that will benefit from 470.000 euros in funding from Norway as part of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Programme. The investment will be implemented by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. The investment is one of the activities that make the motto of the Norwegian funds a reality: Together we work for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.
